"The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera."
—Dorothea Lange

When I was 10 years old, my father — a man not generally known for his benevolence — gave me my first camera. That gift changed my life. Though the camera was so old and inexpensive that it had gone unappreciated by the bargain-hunters at my father's yard sale, it could not have been more precious in my eyes. Never again did I look at anything without seeing it through a lens — real or imaginary.

Through my photography, I strive to express the essence of each person, place, and event in order to "capture the moment that's gone forever, impossible to reproduce."*
